Mike H.'s story...
I started the
9 day cleanse because a friend (Allen Stalvey) recommended it. I had been interested in the subject of cleansing for years, but didn't know how to go about it. At ~165 pounds and 5' 6" I wasn't really interested in weight loss (although my doctor said I should loose some).
After my first 9 day cleanse I had lost 10 pounds and felt great! I then went on to do a 30 day cleanse but switched to the maintenance program about half way through because I had lost another 7 pounds and didn't think I needed to loose any more. I did anyway, even on the maintenance plan - I had lost another 3 pounds! All this at a time when my exercise level actually decreased (more office work).
To date (~4 months) I am holding steady at about 145 pounds - 20 pounds loss since the start. But more important are the numerous health benefits:
- I am sleeping better! For years I've had to take something to help me sleep at night. Either sleeping pills, wine or anything else I could find, and often a combination. Now I just go to bed, go to sleep and get up rested. WHAT A WONDERFUL CHANGE!
- I can read! For most of my life I thought that perhaps I had mild ADD or something similar. I never saw a doctor about it but I knew something was going on. While reading, words would disappear or not make sense, even simple, every day words. Sometimes whole sentences would disappear. I would have to read multiple sentences 4 or 5 times in order for them to make sense. It made reading very difficult as this would happen multiple times on each page. Then a few weeks ago I was reading a book (a rare occurrence for me given the difficulty) and I noticed something I had just read several pages and no words had disappeared, nothing was jumping around on the page! I've been happily reading ever since.
- The dark cloud is gone! (Family benefit #1) I have a genetic susceptibility to depression. Several years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression and was put on various anti-depressants. I've managed to be off of them for 2 or 3 years now but there was still that constant dark cloud over my head. Well, it's gone and has been for a couple of months now. That constant recurring thought of I hate my *&% life is completely gone!
- My finger doesn't hurt! (Family benefit #2) Another wonderful benefit to being in my family is arthritis. I've been relatively lucky since mine has been mild so far. A couple of years ago I started taking glucosamine and fish oil (my doctor said I had psoratic arthritis, related to psoriasis, and the fish oil helps this) and these have worked for the most part. My sister-in-law tried to tell me these didn't really work so I stopped the glucosamine for a while. The pain got worse. I went back on it and the pain subsided a little. When I started with
I stopped all other supplements. The pain got substantially worse (no glucosamine, no fish oil). Then things started slowly getting better. Now, 4 months later, I have less pain (98% better) than I've had in years. - My cholesterol is down! I stopped taking Zocor about a month after I started on
. At about 3 months I saw my doc and she told me I could stop taking the Zocor. Then I told her I already had stopped. It's the first time I've heard her stutter. - I can think clearer and concentrate better!
- My memory is improving!
- My tremors have subsided! (Family benefit #3) Much of my family on my mother's side has a hereditary tremor. It's called a familial tremor, you know, one of those names doctors give things that they have no clue what it is. Anyway, I've always had mine but it wasn't much of a bother until about 3 years ago when it started getting difficult to hold food on my fork. It was getting difficult to eat. I went on a medication called Primidone, an anticonvusant primarily for epileptics. I started on 50mg/day and as of 2 months ago I was up to 150mg. That was 2 months ago, when I stopped. I wanted to stop primarily because it was making me groggy, but also to see if the cleansing had helped any. Well, it's been 2 months and I'm happy to say the tremors have improved by about 80% and are gradually, albeit very slowly, getting better. It is now to the point where it is tollerable.
- The numbness is gone! (Family benefit #4) Now, before you say I'm glad I'm not in his family, let me say it's just my brother and myself that have this one. For years, if I kept my elbows bent more than 90° for more than a 5 or 10 minuets my arms would go painfully numb. I would often wake up in the middle of the night from the pain. The doctor said it was because the nerves running around the back of the elbow (commonly called the funny bone) were too short. He wanted to do surgery to correct the problem. I declined. Now, I'm glad to say, the problem is about 95% better. I can still feel it if I fold my elbows too long, but that's all, no pain.
